When I start CreaToon, the rendering window is containing garbage. What's wrong?
This is a common problem when your computer's graphics card lacks proper OpenGL support. This may be due to an older driver version, or simply because the card doesn't properly support OpenGL. Look on the card manufacturer's site for the latest OpenGL drivers for your card.

Anoter solution that seems to work on most Intel integrated graphics cards (but which may cause CreaToon (or even your PC as a whole) to run too slowly) is to decrease the level of acceleration in the Control Panel:

Control Panel > Display > Settings > Advanced > Troubleshoot, then adjust the "Hardware acceleration" slider (which is by default at "Full") step by step to the left and testeach of the lower acceleration settings until CreaToon doesn't show a garbled display anymore. Remember to restart CreaToon after each change of the acceleration setting.

A third possible solution (thanks to Nigel Stoner) is turning off DirectX acceleration:
  • Close CreaToon, if it is running
  • Click on Start -> Run
  • Type DXDiag and press enter.
  • Click on Yes to run the diagnostic program.
  • On the Tabs click on Display1, under 'Direct X features' it says 'DirectDraw Acceleration Enabled'
  • Click on the Disabled button
  • Confirm that you want to disable DirectDraw (and Direct3D) acceleration by clicking Yes when the window pops up
  • Close DXDiag and restart CreaToon
If these solutions do not help, or if there are no OpenGL drivers available, you will most probably not be able to run CreaToon.

CreaToon complains that certain plugins cannot be loaded. What can I do?
Your (Windows) paging file might be too small. Try increasing its size (in the Control Panel: System -> Advanced -> Performance -> Settings -> Advanced -> Virtual memory -> Change).

Which is the current version of CreaToon?
The current release version is 3.0 (build 3.0.0.36).

What is the best way to learn how to use CreaToon?
We suggest to first go through the animated tutorials: these give a good overview of the basic features of CreaToon. Then read through the reference manual to obtain more detailed information on the different features of CreaToon. Finally, the only good way to learn any package is to use it!

Where can I find the paint tool/sketchbook/pencil test facility/... ?
CreaToon is not aiming at the traditional animaton market, where animators expect to paint their content directly within the software. In CreaToon, content has to be created separately (scanned in, using a paint program, ...), imported into CreaToon, and then animated within CreaToon.
However, CreaToon does include basic curve drawing tools ("sketch objects") that allow you to draw vector graphics within the program itself.

Is there a Mac/SGI/Linux/BeOS/Palm... version available?
No, only a Windows (NT/95/98/2000/XP) version is available.
